It's my first blog, blog entry, blog anything. I think I'd like to focus my first entry on my adventures of FreeCycle! I've just been introduced to this new site, which is basically a group that has users in specific cities that would rather give away items, instead of throwing them away. Since I'm working on furnishing a new home on a shoestring budget, this site has been a savior.
So far, I've collected:
Dresser: Borrowed a friend of our flatmates car. It was too big to fit in the boot, so we had some spandex rope (I know, where does this stuff come from?) to tie down the hatch. The dresser itself was sturdy but had been completely investigated by a hungry borer bug. So needless to say it is a bit holey, but functional.
Iron and Ironing Board: Took the closest bus to the address..... Didn't take into consideration the topography. Climbed down a mountain on a windy, skinny and thorny blackberry covered trail. Popped out on a street, climbed some more paved hills and lost a pound from the work out. Isn't there a saying, "Nothing is free" I'm starting to understand.
Mirror and Shower Caddy: No major problems finding or picking up, since I had Catherine's help carrying the mirror home on the bus. The shower caddy fit in the basket on the scooter.
Folding Table: To be collected..... I was dropped off 5 miles from home to pick up a folding table. I thought the person meant the legs folded down so I would be able to carry easily. Sometimes I'm sooo funny, this person meant the top of the table folds in half to make a full sized table. So since my only transportation is a scooter, I'm going to have to wait on this one, until I can borrow a car.
Later this week, I have 2 lamps to pick up. Hopefully I don't run into any snags. Wait, what am I saying? That turns out to be half the fun :0)
